Frequently Asked Questions
Find direct answers to common questions regarding evaluation protocols, appointment preparation, scheduling logistics, and report delivery.
Testing & Scientific Accuracy
What is the scientific accuracy of a polygraph examination?
According to APA research and meta-analyses, when conducted using standardized Single-issue protocols, accuracy ranges from 85% to 90%.
Will natural nervousness cause a false positive result?
No. Nervousness creates a consistent baseline that is calibrated by the examiner at the start of the test. Deception triggers specific, short-term physiological reactions to specific relevant questions.
Can physical or mental countermeasures beat the test?
No. Modern computerized systems are equipped with movement and pressure sensors that instantly detect attempts to artificially manipulate breathing or heart rate.
What happens if the result is Inconclusive?
If physiological charts do not permit a definitive conclusion (No Deception Indicated or Deception Indicated), you are entitled to one complimentary retest provided all instructions were followed.
The Examination Protocol
How many questions can be asked during an examination?
The Single-issue protocol involves 2 to 4 relevant questions focused on a single specific event. Multi-issue tests significantly decrease accuracy.
Are there any surprise questions during the test?
No. All questions are reviewed and agreed upon word-for-word with the examinee during the Pre-Test interview before any sensors are connected.
Can a third party or lawyer be present inside the room?
No. To ensure the physiological recording remains clean and free of distractions, only the examiner and the examinee are permitted in the room.
How long does the entire session take?
Typically between 90 minutes and 2.5 hours, with the majority of the time dedicated to the pre-test interview and chart analysis.
Suitability & Medical Considerations
Can I take my prescribed medications before the appointment?
Yes, you should take all daily prescribed medications as normal. Medication information is collected on the suitability form.
Can pregnant women undergo testing?
Testing during pregnancy is generally not recommended due to hormonal and physiological changes.
Are minors eligible for polygraph examinations?
Minors can only undergo testing with the explicit written consent of their parents or legal guardians.
Booking, Fees & Reports
Why is a $200 CAD non-refundable retainer required?
The $200 CAD deposit covers the preliminary case review and reserves the certified specialist's time. It is fully credited toward the total cost of the test.
How is mobile/on-site testing conducted?
Mobile deployment requires a quiet, isolated room with a desk, two chairs, and an environment free from external noise and interruptions.
When and how will I receive the written report?
An official signed report with the results is provided to the client within 24 hours of completing the session.
